Jones, CPM

Planet Earth comes complete with oxygen, water and an abundance of plants. With all of this why is money unnecessarily thrown away to get natural minerals and vitamins found in fruits and vegetables. Over $28 billion last year was spent on multi-vitamins, where nearly half of U.S. citizens feel the need to buy and ingest multi-vitamins to stay healthy, but the word is spreading that these tiny pills can be harmful to a person’s health.

It is easy to see how bodily harm is possible when you see that a common ingredient for vitamins include processed sugar. Vitamin makers use processed sugar as a cheap filler to bulk out the tablets, while making it more palatable for some people. Although a major number of vitamin manufacturers are modifying their ingredients by removing processed sugar and lactose ingredients, cellulose is commonly added as a dietary fiber (an easygoing laxative).

Even though vitamin C occurs in plentiful amounts in many fresh fruits and vegetables, taking it as a supplement will not help prevent or cure colds. Actually, conclusive studies reveal that taking mega doses ( 2000 mg or more) of vitamin C can increase the risk of kidney stones. Taking vitamin A supplements can be toxic, causing multiple serious side effects. Ingesting vitamin E runs the risk of contracting prostate cancer. Taking high levels of vitamin B6 supplements for a year or longer can cause severe nerve damage, leading people to lose control of bodily movements.

Contrary, ingesting 100 grams of spinach naturally delivers enough healthy amounts of vitamins A, C, E, K, several B vitamins, and essential minerals including iron and calcium, with no negative side effects. Similarly, blueberries are an equally great plant. Which is why it should come as no surprise how well informed doctors avoid foodstuff that can be harmful to a healthy lifestyle. Items like ice crème is chock-full of chemicals, hormones, and pasteurized dairy. Ice crème comes with saturated fats and, worst of all, processed sugar, while frozen yogurt is not much better as it too includes some type of sugar.

Doctors recommend avoiding sodas, fruit juices, and energy drinks mainly due to the extremely high processed sugar content and acidity. These drinks are toxic to healthy teeth and leaches calcium from bones in addition to contributing heavily to obesity. A whole fruit like an apple is an obvious go to item versus drinking apple juice, as most of the juices contain no fruit fiber.

Rarely associated with processed sugar are packaged cold cuts, processed chicken and farmed fish, but wherever preservatives are needed sodium and sugar are the go to ingredients. Packaged cold cuts are high in fat, sodium and destructive nitrates used as preservatives. Nitrates are linked to stomach cancer among other illnesses. Accordingly, stay sugar alert by eating plants of the planet.

www.SugarAlert.com
Dean Jones, Ethics Advocate, Southland Partnership Corporation (a public benefit organization), contributes his view on consuming various unwholesome packaged foods and beverages.

By Dean L.
